Blinking green key on dash of car (2003 Honda Accord) won’t start but will crank.
Used starting fluid will turn over for a split second and turn back off.
Backstory / I bought the car fixed it up put new parts on it changed the oil battery and key battery’s along with the charcoal canister for evap…
I didn’t want to drive it in the winter, so I parked it.
Well it was a decent day outside, and I tried to start it and I have had this blinking green key flashing I’ve tried to unhook the battery a few times charged it also, checked my fuses only fuse I found bad was a accessories 12v for the cigarette charger thing switched a few fuses around that wasn’t it.
I’m getting absolutely no codes reset the engine codes that didn’t work.
ChristianMultiple funtiom relay under the dash. It’s 80 bucks at O’Reillys.
BillImmobilizer. Needs a new key, or reprogrammed if Honda key. Had the same issue with my 2014 Honda Accord. The car was sold to me with an aftermarket key that shorty had issues with the immobilizer, so I had to take it to Honda Dealership, and they got me a new key for about $100.
ChrisI had this same problem with my 02 cavalier, it’s likely the immobilizer or it’s not reading your key properly.
WyattKey light means security fault generally.
MikeIt’s a security issue. You may need to replace the ignition and key, or have a new key made onsite.
AndeProbably needs to have the key reprogrammed as it’s a computer error with it not connecting.
JesseThere is a weird cheat code with the ignition and the brake pedal that bypasses it if I remember right. Try to Google it.
StaceyI had a 2001 Civic that did this exact same thing. The immobilizer went bad. The immobilizer disables the fuel pump, which is why it cranks but won’t start. I ended up having to have mine towed to the dealership to be fixed.
JesseAre you reading security codes or just engine codes, does the key fob (buttons on the key) actually work. Could be as simple as a dead battery in the fob. Could be as expensive as a dead security module. Need to see the stored codes in the security module.
HeatherOh that’s what it is… It clearly looked like something phallic to me.
JohnAs others have suggested, the flashing green key indicates that the vehicle’s security system (aka immobilizer) is preventing the car from starting. Reading the relevant trouble codes will give you some information as to why. If you have other keys, try them.
JohnAre you using the original key? Seems like the car can’t read the chip in the key. I see this a lot with spare keys, or if the key broke somehow and someone only has the metal bottom part
