I have a question. I own a 2018 Kia optima.
Somehow I forgot to turn my car off. So it was idling for 10 hours. Could there be any damage to the engine for idling for so long?
CopacabanaI mean. No, but how do you forget to turn off the car? It’s not exactly silent.
GerryOnly damages to your wallet for the gas that you wasted. I still would take it out for a nice long drive after idling that long.
StevenWe had a Hyundai Elantra 1.8L and my mom left the keys in it and running all night into the next day. Didn’t hurt a thing.
RichardIt will be fine, optima’s never really gave any trouble when I worked at Kia.
JoeAs long as it didn’t over heat there should be no adverse effects on the car.
MalShouldn’t do. Could be problems with a build up.of water and acid in the sump, if the thermostat was not fully closing and letting the engine get up to operating temp. I would be taking it for a brisk 30min drive up a freeway somewhere.
MikeIf the check engine light is not on, then you are good.
RichardI do it all the time for 12 hours at a time with A/C on, it doesn’t hurt it.
