I put new upper control arms on a 2012 Chevy Silverado 4WD. I took it for a test drive and checked it again, and I noticed that the pins for camber plates were missing, and the plates came all the way out. Is the control arm supposed to hold these pins in?

Always mark things before taking apart so you have the correct place to start from.

Any good techs can do an alignment without the pins.

What usually happens is during alinment if the you try to do the adjustment with vehicle weight on the turn plates it puts ton much stress on them and they fall out. Need to lift the front axle to do the adjustments. If they will not stay in I have brazed them from the back, or you could MIG weld them, just have grind down the excess if it interferes.

It’s possibly under torqued, even with bad pins it should not have rotated.

Those pins are just there to be able to adjust caster/camber adjustments without them alignment techs complain about not being able to adjust properly but for some of us that’s been doing alignment for years know the tricks to adjust them without those pins. Once adjusted as long as the control arm bolts are tightened properly it won’t move regardless of where the eccentric is.

Those are alignment pins when you turn you eccentric it will adjust caster/camber.

What John McClellan said. We’ve had success with (when the pins were VERY loose) installing the pins and taking the MIG welder and tacking them. May have to smooth out the area where tack welded prior to installing the control arm.

They came out because you didn’t get the bolt tight enough, and it slipped back and forth.

Install new pins and have it aligned.
