Hey, quick question — if you scrap a car in Ohio, does that count toward your five-car selling limit? I’m trying to figure out if junking it is treated the same as actually selling it. Like, does it eat up one of your five slots, or is it in a whole different category? Anyone been through this before? Just trying to avoid accidentally hitting that limit without even realizing. Would love to hear what you know!

Anytime a title goes out of your name it counts as a car, I cannot speak to if the scrap yard puts it into their name or just destroys the titles since the car is destroyed.

It does, and they can actually charge you for it. I’ve had it happen, it’s basically just a fine, but they charge you for the first five cars in that year. Cach fine is 1000 max.

Yeah, it still counts, but they count it as salvage vehicle sells, after 5 you need a salvage vehicle selling license even to sell parts off of one. Look up section 4738.02 in the Ohio laws, the only thing I don’t know is if that counts to actually selling cars or is the salvage vehicle selling is separate from regular selling, it might say in that section.

Well, I’m gonna give you five stars for playing by the rules.

You’ll get away with 1 over. A friend of mine did 11. I warned him long before this. Nothing happened, but he’s not doing that again.

You got that law all wrong, anything sold for profit you need a dealers liscence.

So I been down this road with the BMV. As a individual and as a dealer.

So for a individual it counts as a sale technically, but they don’t really enforce it as one of your sales. Basically, the BMV told me they are looking for 5+ to another individual. Looking for ppl flipping cars.

As a dealer, is DOESN’T count as a car sale somehow lol. Makes no sense, lol. (Was trying to get more dealer tags lol).
