Question for the dealers: We just got our license a couple months ago, so we’re pretty new. All things considered, we’ve done pretty well so far. The main thing we struggle with is getting people in the door. Most of the people that show up leave with a car. Right now we list our cars on Facebook marketplace and auto trader, I was wondering what advice you guys may have to help get more people coming in?
PS: We have a website and 7–9 cars in inventory.
PrestonDo social media, YouTube, TikTok and IG.
KerryIn house financing or a financial company to back the sales with good interest rate. Same thing. Then get a good repo company lined up.
DanielHave every buyer make a positive post at time of purchase. It expands your listings into their friends pages AND gets you overall better SEO.
Jim24yr veteran dealer. As someone else above-mentioned, your own website. Craigslist has made a bit of a resurgence for us here. Marketplace works well if you don’t mind filtering thru lowballers & flippers. Cargurus was really hot for awhile, but it’s tailed-off & it’s expensive. The market is constantly changing. Good luck!
DavidI currently use Trucar, Offerup, Carguru, and Hammer. I’m dropping Trucar and Offerup soon. I asked specific questions to weed out the tire kickers. I get a ton of appointments set, but they never show.
DarionCraigslist is still relevant. Marketplace is full is prospects but full of flippers. I would focus on clean pics, a personal connection with the cars so you can explain them more. Learn about them so you can talk about them.
JessReach out to subprime lenders, just be careful and read dealer agreement carefully.
Promote your listings on Marketplace.
Social Media and Network with others.
Buy a banner for storefront
“We buy Cars!”
A point car on the lot with aggressive pricing on windshield.
“Manager’s Special”
Be proactive, as you acquire more inventory, keep it all clean and flip flop the lot frequently.
Don’t let stickers on windshields show age, keep them fresh looking.
Banners, Streamers, Balloons (check with local ordinances)
Anything to draw attention to your storefront while passing by.
AdamSurprisingly, craigslist. I’m a new dealer as well, no lot, and as far as CAC, craigslist has sold 2 cars for a CAC of $12.50 lol
Offerup has been pointless, Facebook boosted only seems to attract people that live outside the US.
I just started running Facebook ads, and it’s generating a decent amount of leads, but unfortunately they’re mostly people looking for other types of units and buy here pay here, so It’s going to take some more testing to get the quality/accuracy up, but it’s very promising results.
JodyI stated saleing to the everyone but u found I made better money saling ti orther dealer and at auctions yea you dot make as munch, but it is a done dealer and nobody will tell you 30 days down the road you sold them a bad car.
DanI have a lot of friends with small independents who have this exact problem. I recommend using cost effective tools to ensure your lead funnel stays full. Ensure anyone doing sales is actively branding themselves online and once shoppers enter the funnel, communication quickly is a necessity or you’ll lose them unless you have a car they really want. There are various tools my friends and I use for this. Happy to send over a list of tools we’ve reviewed and rated for this kind of thing. lmk
