How does one increase speeds in a 98 Chevy Silverado? Replace transmission with faster/ smaller gears? Wanting to increase tow capacity and increase speed and acceleration.
BrandanSend 18 lbs of boost threw it, it will be the best 5 seconds of your life
DavThe final drive is the differential in your rear end. There are numerous ratio options to improve towing and speed. I believe these are on opposite sides of the spectrum though.
SamLower gears for heavy towing. Higher gearing for top speed. Unless you are wanting to dump money, pick one. Probably cheaper to get a more powerful truck.
RobSeems to me, trying to get more speed AND towing capacity is sort of like looking for someone to do a job good, fast, AND cheap.
OscarSupercharge it. Those ls v8’s are pretty much plug n play. Slap on the supercharger, maybe need some spacers, put on a bigger serpentine belt as it will add another pulley and bam.
Hello, going from around 350hp to around 500hp
BryanGotta tune it. It’s computer controlled and will need a flash or chip replacement.
BrianMore horsepower is the only way. Auxiliary transmission oil cooler if it doesn’t have one. The only way to get more speed is smaller gears in the differential, and to gain take off from a stop is taller gears. If it’s 4×4, you have to change gears in the front differential.
