2008 Honda Fit
Canada, OntarioI bought a vehicle, it came with a safety certificate from a dealer. I took it in to be inspected, and they said the “frame” is rotted, with holes.
They said the back end is the worst with “speed holes”. The dealer I bought it from is going to look at it tomorrow and determine if it’s fixable or not (on their dime, not mine). The vehicle is only worth $2500 ish. How can I tell which part of the vehicle is the frame, or other components?
When I looked under yesterday, all the metal had holes in it, I don’t know what to point out to the dealer.
LanceDidn’t the shop take pictures or video? If they did, then get them to send it to you!
EricGet your money back. No questions further. Get your money.
Michael100% agree with the comment from Dave Porter.
I would opt to get my money back if that is an option. The dealer never should have sold a safety certified car to you that was “rotted”. The mechanic who certified it could loose their license.
I would have a change of mind and tell them you want a refund. I wouldn’t want to be driving a car that had a rotted frame, unless the frame was completely replaced, which, unfortunately, would be cost prohibitive considering the value of the car. Too risky to weld it, how would you ever verify the structural integrity?
By the way, I also live in Ontario.
AlbertWe have had a few cars come into our shop as well like that, and have phoned MTO and had them do an inspection in our shop. And they have gone back to the mechanic that did the safety on it… Also from Ontario, belleville.
SamuelThis vehicle is an unibody design. There is no frame. They do have a “subframe” which is actually called the engine cradle. That’s in the front. There may be a rear subframe. It probably had a different name. It would be a steel support bolted to the body in the middle on the rear.
All the rear control arms would attach to it.
So unless they are referring to those 2 pieces, they would have to be talking about holes in the body of the car itself.
RhéalWhen the time comes for you to sell the car, you will not likely be able to sell it safetied. It will have scrap value. Get your money back and don’t buy anything else from them.
RayGet your money back immediately! Sounds like a Stevie Wonder safety.
