I bought a car off of somebody, to make a long story short I have a bill of sale to me, but the title is signed to the person I got the car from. DMV is giving me 0 help. Won’t let me register it. I contacted the dude and got ghosted. How can I go about this?

Go to the BMV and get a title correction form. Fill it out as correcting the buyer name. Fill in your name. Sign it as close the the sellers signature as possible. Good luck

Ghosted……. No inscentive for a seller to help you get paperwork straightened out after you’ve paid off the car to him

I look at the title “both sides“ if there’s an issue, the seller isn’t getting a single penny until they march down to the DMV and get it transferred.

And if you didn’t notice this on the title, how can you be trusted to represent the vehicle you’re flipping accurately.

Try the local AAA office and do bill of sale from actual owner to you ignore title. That would be enough in CA.

Really it depends on the state anymore Kentucky for example is a bastard to get anything done.

You can apply for a duplicate or a lost title yourself… they just give you a bonded title after they check the database, and you wait a year then you get a clean title to your car. Get pictures of the car, odometer, engine block # and vin. Took me less then 24 hours to get a bike out of impound that wasn’t in my name, just bought it and got pulled over for no plate took it at 5 pm got it back at 3pm.

Just “get” a bill of sale from the owner on the title to the guy who signed it and a bill of sale from the last purchaser on the signed title to you. It will show the paper trail of it being sold and not registered. Always has worked for me
