I want opinions from you guys, if you don’t mind. I’m looking at purchasing a 2008 Silverado 1500 v6 87k mile 4×4 single cab long bed for 2700 it’s pretty rusty, and I’m in Florida, wondering if it would still sell well for a work truck, or should I pass?

As a rule of thumb, I don’t fuck with anything rust. Unless it’s pre-70s.

The only reason you buy a rusty gm truck is so you can remove the drivetrain and then scrap it.

It would be a cheap runner if you need a truck, but I probably wouldn’t buy it for resale. Nobody wants a rusty vehicle.

V6 is the problem. You limit 85% of buyers bc they want a v8 in full size truck. Maybe can focus on student market and be lucky with it. Honestly also depends on rust issue. If you had the time to sit on it, you could prob get $4800 once you find the right person.

It won’t sell well down there. In the rust belt, it may.

My opinion in an area like Florida where the average vehicle is not rusty, it’s much harder to sell something with rust here. There’s too many other options for people to buy something with no rust unless it’s insanely cheap. I would steer away from it personally.

$2700 is a bit much for a rusty basic work truck IMO. Unless the rust is just surface rust on the hood or roof, I’d pass on it. There’s no telling how the frame looks. I took an L about a year ago on a 00’ Honda Accord. I paid $1500 for it. Well, it had a crap ton of cancer on it that compromised the frame, so I ended up scraping the car for $700 at a local junkyard. Moral of the story is if you’re gonna buy a car with some rust, do some research on the VIN and really inspect it before pulling the trigger on one.

I would pass on it than get stuck-too many good trucks out there.

Probably depends on area you’re at Florida big. Certain areas need them for recycling or yard clean outs. An others are just down right depressed RT now. So, I’m thinking it’s spendy for that area.

I’d say the 87k miles is probably not correct. 2008 is in the range of gm trucks that had to have the cluster repaired because the pointer motors went bad. The people doing the repair will ask what mileage you want on it when you get it back. It could have 300k for all you know. Just putting that out there for those who may not know.
