Every time I get an alignment, my inner tie rod gets unscrewed from my steering rack. To fix this, could I put Loctite on the inner tie rod, tighten it down, and then loosen the outer from the inner? It seems that the ball is not turning. Should I just replace my inner tie rod?
’93 Accord, 5-speed.
DanielYou replace the inner tie rods?
Because if there is not a mechanical lock to keep it from unscrewing, there should be loctite on it.
El BrujoYour rack was replaced and wasn’t centered when the tie rods were put on.
ElliotThere’s definitely a problem here, your rack is offset. Possibly, from all the work you’ve been doing yourself. The steering wheel may need to be moved on the column spline, so they can properly align it without the rackend backing off.
BillyBend the lock tabs with a hammer and punch. If it doesn’t have the tabs, someone forgot to put it on.
RussYou should find yourself a better alignment shop.
ScottThose older Honda Accords had a specialty lock tab for the inner tie rod. Yours is probably damaged and doesn’t hold the tie rod in place anymore.
You could use locktight, but it’s probably better to get a new tie rod with a new locking tab and secure it correctly.
As it is right now, it’s pretty dangerous if it’s coming unthreaded like that.
