Doing head gaskets on my wife’s old ’08 Honda Odyssey Touring (240k miles). Found some significant scarring on the cams and was advised to replace them. OEM camshafts run around $800 for the pair, which I really can’t really afford. I don’t need the car to last a long time (I’m giving it to my brother-in-law when he gets his license, just to run for a year or two to get him started).
There are cheap knockoff cams on eBay for around $170/pair. Those really seem to be my only option unless there’s a good place I can get cheap used OEM cams. Any advice? Or does anyone have some I could purchase, and you could ship to me? Thanks
MasonLook on HondaParts online or Honda parts warehouse.
KyleDon’t use cheap knock offs. My friend just did cam and lifters on a 5.7 HDMI. Every single exhaust valve was crushed. Amazon special.
SteveCheck Amazon because I did a Quick search and came up with a ton of 5 Star Rated Camshafts for a Odyessy with prices of $100 to $200 each.
PhilIf the lobes are fine just reuse the old ones, some scaring on the bearing journals won’t make much difference.
ChristianOEM or reuse what you have. Buddy used Amazon special for cam and lifters on a jeep 3.6l ended up costing him over double if he had just used OEM.
KennethHonestly, with that kind of mileage, I would look for a cheap low mileage engine. Then you won’t have to worry about anything.
JessicaIf it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Replace the gaskets for the oil leak and move on.
NickHeads with 240k on the engine? Sounds like a bad time.
