OK so I just bought a 2007 Jeep Patriot about 6 months ago (150k miles) and I have a question bc it’s giving me a lot of problems! Just wondering what the issue could probably be that way I could solve it!

So here’s the story: bought it on Facebook marketplace and long story short I was lied to about the condition.

Drove for a couple of days and then about a week later I took it on the highway and it overheated.

I was on the highway for no more than 10 miles.

Since then, I’ve figured out that I can drive it around 45-50 mph with it being fine, if I take it anywhere over 50mph for longer than about 5–10 minutes then it’ll overheat, and I’ll smell burnt transmission fluid.

First time it overheated, and we took to autozone since we don’t have a dip stick (did not come with the car for some reason) and they said there was no transmission fluid so they filled it up, but it still smelled burnt any time it overheated after that.

I’ve tried researching, but nobody seems to have had the same problems as me, please help!

Any tips or advice is appreciated!

You bought an 07 Jeep off of marketplace, accuse the seller of being dishonest, which they are 100% are, obviously never did any research that that vehicle is a pile of scrap metal from the date of production, and want to get your buyer’s remorse diagnosed over the internet?

A prepurchase inspection by a qualified technician, not Uncle Buck, would have prevented this tragedy.

You bought an 18-year-old car with 150k miles. That’s an as-is sale all day long. It’s your responsibility to get any used car properly checked out before buying it.

That being said, you need to find out exactly why it’s overheating and verify the transmission fluid level to start.

First, take it to someone who can properly check all the fluids.

Driving with low transmission fluid will burn up the transmission, and it will not be worth fixing.
