I need a professional opinion, please. Got a 2009 Pontiac gt G6 2.9.
I have change the alternator and the battery, but the car still dies in minutes after starting it up. Took the battery and alternator to auto zone to test it, both are running at 100%.
When I get the battery charged by AutoZone it lasts about 30 minutes before it dies.
If I jump start it, it dies in minutes.
What could it be?
JonFrom your initial description, it’s NOT THE STARTER!
Once the engine is running, the starter has no involvement. A good battery, fully charged, should permit engine operation for at least 2 hours – without running any accessories, of course.
While the Alternator may test good, that doesn’t mean the current is getting to the battery to keep it replenished. You would be wise to engage a Professional Technician to test the charging system.
RobertCheck your alternator while it’s on the vehicle and make sure that there is voltage going to the big wire and at least one of the little wires. If it doesn’t have juice going to one of the little wires, it could be a blown fuse or a bad wire.
LanceI would check for codes and be ready to do a voltage drop test!
