(1995 Silverado k1500 5.7l) | Here lately my truck has been idling really high. I can tap the gas one good time, and it idles right back down to normal, but as soon as I go to drive then push the clutch back in its back to idling high again. It runs great, just idling really high. I’ve rebuilt the throttle body, new injectors and a throttle body spacer and did a cat delete. So was thinking maybe it needed a tune, but it’s been fine. It’s never done that before, untill lately. Also has a new TPS, IACV, and timing is good.

I’d be hunting for a vacuum leak.

Check the butterfly and make sure it’s not sticking, listen for a VAC leak I’d start with the easy stuff first.

I changed my IAC, and it fixed it for me, finally idled down did it just start when it started getting colder?

Ethen Absher get a can of brake parts cleaner and a fire extinguisher spray the whole can around any hoses, intake anywhere there could be a vacuum leak you’ll find it.

Serpentine belt maybe or you need a tune up.

Coils, plugs, wires and an oil change.

Your break booster can cause that also an exhaust leak right at the manifold can cause that, try pressing your breaks if it’s slows that idle down that’s most likely it.

Heck, your cable, make sure it is returned every time you have light disengagement of the throttle. A fast disengage can make it return all the way, but sometimes easy disengage will allow it to get hung up.

Spray soapy water around on the intake parts while the car is running, if you hit the hole with thewater the idle will change, then you know where it inspects.

Sticky throttle linkage? WD-40 on the linkage at the throttle body, good luck.

Did you calibrate the TPS? What are EGR and IAC values? Did you miss a gasket or vacuum ports on that do nothing spacer?

Throttle body base gasket could be failing. IAC sticks also. Vacuum leaks cause high idle. TPS can be an issue. Those are the most likely culprits. Spray carb cleaner equivalent around base gasket area.

So when setting the min Idle speed use ahe plug off tool and when warm set it to 450 in park then remove the tool clear the codes and look at the IAC counts should be around 20-30 and TPS under 1 volt a lower # you have a vacuum leak so it is adding air a higher # throttle plates carboned up any way not enough air so it is adding air so you have to start there there has been alot of problems with the gasket interfering with the throttle plate that also cause this problem.

Take all that computer stuff off. Get a nice intake manifold from Summit Racing with a big ole Holley 4 barrel carb and a old style HEI distributed. You’ll be Old School and enjoy that Silverado.

Check the temperature sensor reading. That and everything everyone has already mentioned. You may need help from someone who knows what to look for on live data on a scan tool.
