Here’s a crazy one for y’all mechanics!
2013 Nissan Altima
Car hit a bump, started leaking coolant from bottom of car maybe the radiator hose under car or possibly radiator, but there is a medal frame covering it so more than likely the hose…. Person added stop leak and possibly didn’t do it correct… leaked a little still. The car would over heat when sitting, but when accelerating it would drop back to normal temp. Person drove car 2 hours… then over heated even when driving!
Crazy part: I put radiator flush in it, it said to drive 3–6 hours with water and the flush in radiator, so person drove it 2 hours back home with no over heating but when she got back I checked the RADIATOR HOSE THE TWO BIG MAIN ONES THEY FEEL EMPTY I MEAN NO PRESSURE OR ANY FEELING OF LIQUID FLOWING but is not over heating anyone know what this means hahah?
ChrisGummed it up with the stop leak or the therm is bad.
Pull the therm out and drop it in a pot of boiling water if you see the spring move it’s opening and good if not replace it. Also bypass the heater core to rule out that as a clog.
I’d also be checking the block for any freeze plugs considering we just came out of winter and u said hit a bump got a leak. Kinda sounds like a freeze plug but that’s just a guess.
MalCould be a cracked radiator. Contemporary radiators are made of plastic. After anywhere from about 5–20 years, they go brittle with age and heat cycles, and crack.
TonyyDefinitely need to check for blockages, and DO NOT use any stop leak. Also, if the propeller breaks off the back of the water pump, then it won’t be pumping coolant, also check the fans are working, both upper and lower radiator hoses need to feel hot.
AngelA stop leak is like authorizing the car to become junk. I would never use that sh… Period. It messes everything. Even the radiator, the internal cabin heater, can damage transmission if coolant or whatever it uses, gets the heat exhanger plugged.
I cannot understand how, after messing the cooling system, anyone can think that a can of non manufacturer certified magic liquid or solid additive will fix anything.
Diagnose and replace the damaged parts.
That is what needs to happen.
CoreyUsually, the thermostat gets stuck open.
So is it not heating or is the engine just not warming up. Does the heat blow out warm air?
I’m pretty certain you have a bad thermostat. It will make the heat not work.
Car over heat at idol. No heat from vents in car. Possible anyifreeze on the ground.
Says bad thermostat all over it.
