I brought my Infiniti QX60 to a repair shop to get an oil change and noticed my check engine light was on so I asked for that to be checked out as well… after they changed the oil they came back and said the 02 sensor and mass flow sensor both needed to be replaced ($600) so I let them replace those (mind you; my SUV was running and driving perfectly fine before this) so I leave the car and pick it up a few hours later (after hours so they were closed).

Immediately after driving off the property I knew something wasn’t right. My SUV was sputtering on and off(while accelerating and while parked), it was extremely laggy meaning I had the gas pedal all the way to the floor and still couldn’t get it to accelerate.

Takes a few minutes to get up to a decent speed! So I take it back the next morning and they say they will fix it. An hour later he comes to tell me that it’s now the catalytic converter thats needs replacing but there are 3 in my car and he cant pinpoint which one is the problem!

He recommends I drive the car as is until the converter goes out then bring it back to them to replace. He proceeded to print me out a $2300 guestimate for when that does happen! I was there for 3 1/2 hrs today and left with a considerably worse issue then when I left it the first time!

I don’t know what to do now I’m stuck with a car that barely accelerates and feels like it’s gonna die out any minute! Help!

This is why you should always:
        1. Require that the shop gives you the old parts back after they make repairs
        2. Always ask WHY parts need to be replaced and WHAT exactly did they find that led them to believe those parts were defective. It’s also good to ask HOW they tested and performed diagnosis to determine what parts were bad.
        3. Do your research before bringing your vehicle anywhere for repairs, and only visit the top-rated repair facilities in your area.

I would ask that they put the old parts back in, then bring the vehicle to a different shop.

Sorry. Sounds like they put sensors in based on diagnostic codes rather than actually diagnosing. Or perhaps didn’t relearn fuel trims post install. Now they’re blaming catalytic because O2 sensors are showing unburned fuel as a result of mass airflow poorly installed/ not “learned”/ something else. You’re not gonna love this ride. You now have what’s known as a drivability issue, which can be challenging to diagnose properly.

Was it a real repair shop or some houseplant that uses Autozone parts/sensors?

A good technician with a real scanner and diagnostic skill is your only way out now. Take it to a better shop and be prepared to re-replace those sensors. INFINITI catalytic converters do go out, and they’re pricy, but likely not your issue. Need a real tech w skill and a computer.

          Sorry again.

You took your car in for a check engine light. There might have been more than one problem with the vehicle, or you didn’t take it to a repair shop you took it to an oil change place, in any case it wasn’t repaired properly.

That was the time to take it to a real shop and have them do a diagnosis and give you an estimate that they would stick to and your car would have been fixed.

Spend some money and get a good mechanic instead of a code reader parts replacer.

They should have done a full check the vane computer would tell them any codes iv never in my life had this at a good dealership.

Tell them to put the old parts back in. Probably just a bad new part. Happens more than it should.
