My husband and I got a 2009 3.5L V6 Dodge Charger and was told “it just needs driven and has been sitting”. The issue is we have had it a month now, it’s not wanting to shift into 4th gear and when it does is rare. But when it does and you gotta slow down or stop.
It goes right back to not wanting to shift into 4th again. When it is in 4th, highway speed, it drives just fine. No slips, feels normal… but I’d say we’ve maybe gotten it into 4th a handful of times where we could drive highway speeds.
As is, we can’t get it above 50 because it’s stuck in 3rd. We’ve checked fluid levels, fuses and relays. All good.
How do we go about diagnosing if it’s TCM, Shift solenoids (and which one is it), or some other issue? Tried to find the TCM, but it’s not located under the dash.
RussCan’t diagnose it without a scan tool and a transmission pump pressure test. Check with your local trans shop for a diagnosis.
KeithThose transmissions are known junk, they expensive also replaced a lot of them! Usually an internal failure with shift solenoid or something in the valve body. If u do some googling, you can find tons of threads on it!
NestorWent thru the same thing of looking for the TCM…from research, the 4 speeds TCM is built into the Engines’ computer all in one. Only the 5 speed has a separate TCM under steering wheel dash area.
