Hey Mechanics, quick question – do you think it’s possible to drop a Toyota engine into a Nissan Ad Van? Would it even fit or cause a bunch of headaches down the road? Anyone tried this swap before, or am I just asking for trouble? Would love to hear your thoughts!

You don’t want to do that, it would be cheaper to replace the Nissan engine every time it blows up.

With enough time and money, anything is possible. But why not just buy the right engine and save yourself the time and money and effort. It would probably be easier to swap an LS v8 than this.

I watched a dude swap his Nissan truck motor with Briggs & Stratton. Was that easy? No. Would a bigger Toyota engine be next to impossible on a scale 1-10. Close.

If you have to ask this question, I assume you must mean literally just taking an engine out and putting one in and nothing else. The short answer is no.

Time, money, torch and a big hammer you can fit any engine into anything.

Well yes. But in your case, no. Unless you have a bucket or 2 of money you don’t need, then it’s a yes.

Anything CAN be done, but it shouldn’t be done. Too much work for what you end up with.

Last time I was in the Caribbean, I saw a Toyota sedan with a Nissan engine/trans shoved into it. I thought, ‘why would anyone do this?’ The most probable reason is that an original engine for that car is probably next to impossible to find.

So you grab whatever you can get that doesn’t break the bank, and finagle it to work.

In my curiosity, I looked under the vehicle, and could see that someone had sleeved the CV driveshafts and welded them.

They must have welded the Toyota outer half of the CV to the Nissan inner half of the CV axles together in order to make it work. So yes, it can be done.

Back in the day, most guys would swap in a 350 Chevy and a Turbo 350 auto.

Respectfully, if you gotta ask this question, you definitely are not prepared to do it.
