Hey, I could really use some advice… I’m on the hunt for a solid car, and everyone keeps raving about Toyotas and Hondas. But what about Hyundai and Nissan? Are they worth considering, or should I just stick with the usual suspects? Would love to hear what you all think!

I’d say find yourself a Mazda, Toyota, Honda, or maybe a Subaru if it’s the right year.

How old are you looking? Hyundai & Kia pre-Theta 2/GDI was solid — 08-12 Santa Fe, Veracruz, 06-09 Tucson, the Entourage, 06-10 Sonata (heavy on this), 06-09 Elantra.

Avoid anything 2010s-ish. For K/H. Awful. It will blow up.

2020/2021+ is a little better, but I don’t trust most of the SUVs much. I would drive a Sonata/k5 or Elantra/K4 fairly confidently?

Nissan is awful. Just pure CVT garbage.

Stay away from Nissan, CVT transmission are garbage!

If you pick a car, take it to a local shop for pre-purchase inspection, (100-150$), get detail report if dealership or private seller won’t, walk away!

I find Nissans to just be horrible cars (cheap interiors, terrible automatics, awful to work on). I’ve not had any bad experiences with Hyundais, but I’ve heard anecdotally of people having problems.

Nissans always have transmission problems. Stay away from them. Toyotas are pretty good tho!

I have a Nissan and don’t have any issues with it.

Any Hyundai with a GDI engine is horrible. If the engine hasn’t been replaced yet, it will eventually. As for Nissan, the transmissions are junk, and they have problems with their batteries corroding so bad it eats up the cable ends.

Used 2.0L or 2.5L skyactive Mazdas for the best bang for the buck reliability for cost

If you want reliability always go Toyota or Honda. I’ve heard good things about Mazdas as well.
