Trading my boat for a car. Distance is too far and both parties agreed on transport/hot shot. The transporter will deliver my boat, grab a car trailer and return to me with the car.

My question is should I keep the boat title and next day it once the car is delivered to me safely? I don’t feel comfortable giving my boat/trailer and title to a transporter and leaving me with no collateral or securities.

Maybe there is a better way?

      Thanks

Best option in my personal opinion here is hiring your own transporter if you have anyone you previously worked with or go on central dispatch and post a roundtrip, I definitely wouldn’t be comfortable if it was a transporter the other party hired unless they’re bringing their vehicle to me first.

Talk to the shipping company and explain your concerns. IDK what your best course of action is exactly, but if they’re legit, they’re insured up the ass and there’s a very clear paper trail. Your own insurance might cover it too. Talk to them and keep your insurance until the delivery is complete.

I’m a local family owned shipping company and sometimes handle paperwork title transfers, and sometimes I’ve paid for cars for costumers, just depends the situations ask the shipper if he might be able to handle the paperwork for you could save you a headache.

Have a 3-way conference call where you explain straight out to all parties involved how the deal will play out. You can give the title(s) to the transporter, and he is not to offload your property until he sees the vehicle you are to get and the title that goes with it. And I’m sure you and the purchaser will be required to pay some upfront money to insure the transport payment, whether your transaction goes through or not. His time and mileage are not free if you two don’t complete the deal. To be honest, it’s ridiculous way to handle a deal, way too much can go wrong trading out assets sight unseen.

Ride along bro at the very aleast.. the world is shady asf and I perse don’t trust anyone.
Keeping the title would be switching roles as now the buyer may feel like it’s a scam, but maybe not.

IDK how you’re even comfortable trading for something unseen.

This whole deal is sketch, but that doesn’t mean it’s not legit. I’d just double-check.
Are you selling him a boat and trailer because if not where the guy gonna store his boat trailer when he swaps for a car trailer?

Also did the buyer find this hotshot person or did you guys find it mutually together.
