I had a dude from out of state get ahold of me about a car. Sent him the VIN and FaceTimed him around it. He Zelled me the money and said he’d be here in a few days to pick it up. Is this a scam? I literally have the money in my bank just don’t wanna sell it, then a few days later it vanishes.

        I would have told him

You can bring cash, and I’ll hold it for you til you get here, or give him a time limit of 2–3 days.

I thought Zelle had a limit on how much you can transfer, if you would rather have cash from someone out of state use Walmart to Walmart not that expensive at all.

Zelle is the only one I use…. Once it’s in your bank account, god himself can’t return it!

Only way Zelle can be taken back is if he used a stolen account and the person who owns the account files fraud, but even then hard to get funds back.

May not be a scam, or it may be a scam. If the money really did go into your account, it is yours, and they can’t take it back. However, just because you have an email or a text confirmation that says the money is in your account doesn’t mean it is. So you need to log into your bank account and make sure the money is there, AND NOT FROM A LINK THEY SEND YOU OR CONFIRMATION EMAIL YOU GOT.

Just about any online payment method can be spoofed. They will say they’re sending you the money, you will get a confirmation email or a text that says you’ve got money. And that confirmation can be fake. And never click on the link in a confirmation that says view your money and sign in. Because the link they send you can be a fake web page that looks exactly like your bank.

So always open up your bank app or go directly to your bank website login and check it that way.

Your good Zelle does not respect any claims for disputes or anything, so I like using Zelle for sales etc so you can’t get scammed it also asks seller to be sure before sending as they do not refund money so you’re good.

How can it be a scam? The funds are in YOUR account. If anything, he’s proving he’s solid, & u technically, have the power to screw him.

I would consider a second account or even a third. The first one is the one the money is zell into. The second, you zell from the first one.

If they go to take the money back, it won’t be in the account, and it will just go to negative.

He shouldn’t be able to dispute the charge or anything if its Zelle. PayPal/ cash app/venmo yes they can dispute.

He is probably sending from an account that isn’t his. Then the deal will “fall through” and he will have you send the money back, but to a different account.

Like others said, the only risk of getting scammed with Zelle is if you’re the one sending money through it, lol. As the seller, you could screw someone over with Zelle, and they’d only be able to get it back through claims court.

To everyone saying withdraw it, don’t. Because if somehow it does get reversed, your account will be negative what ever amount he sent you. Just wait 7 days, after 7 days if It’s still there you’re good to go and just call him to see when he’s coming.

If they ask you they no longer want it and to send the money elsewhere or to a shipper, you have b3en used to pick up fraudulent money from their scan victims.

My rule of thumb is if you’re selling a car out right cash only upfront. If I’m holding paper cash down payment and then if the customer is local I may do cash app is monthly payments, or I’ll do Zelle That as if it’s a customer who’s making payments never in my 20 plus years would I ever taken electronic payment for the full price of a car. And I definitely shouldn’t have to say this, and I probably don’t, but never ever ever take a check.

Zelle is actually the ONLY digital payment I accept because it’s basically like cash. It can’t be clawed back at all. If it’s Zelle, I think you’re good.

Well I hate to say this but no matter how you send it or how it sent even if it’s from a bank to bank it doesn’t matter they can always dispute and say it’s fraud fall a police report, and you’re going to be negative that money and have no car.

It’s 50/50, could be a legit after few days of no reversal of the money from your bank. There are many stolen Zelle accounts, where they send you money from the victims accounts and ask you for their money back, they even offer you to keep some of it for your troubles.. You can do your due diligence with the bank to make sure it’s legit. Usually Zelle payments are not reversible, but the gouverment has been going after the banks due to a lot of frauds.

We bought a car with Zelle before. A $2500 dollar car, we test drove it, then sent the Zelle cash on the spot. He signed the title, and we added it to insurance with a phone call then drove it to the DMV to do the transfer and registration.
