Good morning. Is there a way to correct the mileage on a car? I bought a car with an actual mileage of 28,000 miles and it had only one previous owner. However, the last person who inspected it in February mistakenly put 80,000 miles on the inspection sticker. That has significantly cut my profit, and I don’t want this issue to appear on the CarFax report.

Sound like you trying to roll it back to last reported.

So I had a guy do that to my Viper… After contacting Carfax, and then I went with the car back to the inspection station, they told me sorry, but it happens. I sued the station and the inspector for all damages for the loss in value of the car. I was awarded decent money, and then, I was able to use the facts from the lawsuit to get CARFAX to amend the stated milage. I sued the inspection station and the inspector for 120k and was awarded 71k. My car had 9k miles and they typed in 90k.

Wow that is some bs I believe you can sue the place for over what the car is worth for inconvenience, and it’s also a crime.

Yes, it can be corrected. You will need documentation to prove the mistake, and then it will need to be corrected with the state and CARFAX. Not an easy task in my state, Kansas. I usually have a title company do it, but it can be expensive

Carfax can correct if it’s valid.

It’s happened before for a client. Had. 400 Mile hellcat he sent it for inspection and the guy put 40000. You will have a headache putting it back, but it’s possible just reach out to Carfax they will want all documentation

If the state registered it. Long shot. You need to have tag title get involved letter of affidavit mechanical inspection, possibly with letter to DMV. It’s a hurdle I had an incident similar in FL I went thru hoops and loops but FL non inspection state it was title error.

What’s the vin let me check auto check for you see what experian says

Before you dive into anything get a CARFAX on this car it will show you the history on miles accuracy.
