Need some advice over here! So my sister bought this car.
She got the tittle and put her name in the back because she was gonna register it at the DMV. Unfortunately she has a condition, and she won’t be able to drive for a while, so she decided to sell the car. The problem is the tittle already has her name in the back and as we already know we can’t use whiteout to erase the name. The question is if she sells it, how is the new owner gonna be able to register since her name is on the back of the tittle?
Does she have to still register it to her name, then sell it and release the tittle to the new owner? Is there any other way she can just sell it without registering it, since she never used the car? Appreciate your help!
RayRayIn VA, you can title it on your name and not register it. Then just sign new title over to new owner. We don’t have any nice forms to fill out. If it’s done wrong, the new owner is screwed unless last one is willing to get a reprint title.
MikeShe needs to title it and then sell it.
ChrisJust title it in her name. Do a speedy title, and it will be back in here have in a few days. No need to plate and register.
PaulThere is a form at the DMV that needs to be filled out, basically stating it was signed in the wrong place, or missigned.
RickJust tell her to gift it to herself and go transfer it, and then she’s got a title in her name no hassle, and it’s done she can sell the car legally that way or the affidavit is another option, but people get sketchy about that stuff.
Ken3 options:
1. Go ahead and get title in her name. If allowed by your DMV, do “title only”.
2. Fill out a DMV form that says it was signed in error. It’s likely both your sister AND the person listed as owner on the title will need to fill out this form, and it may need to be notarized.
3. Call your local DMV and ask them what to do.AfiefMake a bill of sale to new owner, selling as is. Fill out a lost title form and mark it as lost with previous owners information and current buyers’ information.
JaguahGo do title only without registering the car to avoid the tax because the buyer will have to pay tax to get it in his name.
